Photographing miniatures is tough, especially finding the right backdrop. I’ve spent a fortune on Etsy scenery trying to get that perfect, atmospheric shot for Instagram.
Handiwork Games and Factory Fortress Inc. have an elegant solution: ring-bound books of professional, hand-painted backdrops for the Trench Crusade universe. Now you can give your miniatures the high-quality, thematic setting they deserve for truly epic photos. The catch? The Kickstarter finishes on the 7th.
Handiwork Games offers a series of A4 and A3 backdrop books designed to enhance miniature photography. Following two successful Kickstarters and a third-place award in the On TableTop Accessory of the Year 2024, they have returned with two new books for the Trench Crusade setting. These books offer a straightforward method for creating a thematic background for miniatures. Users select a scene and place it behind their model for photography, with the option to add plinths or scenery for more complex compositions.
The first new volume, Visions of War, contains 32 battlefield images, including classic Trench Crusade art from Mike Franchina and new, officially approved pieces by Jon Hodgson and Paul Bourne. The second book, The Golden Seal, offers a different approach, with 32 atmospheric and stylised images intended to frame miniatures with artistic symbolism. Both Visions of War and The Golden Seal are available to back in either A4 or A3 formats.
The pages are the heaviest stock we can source, coming in at 250gsm. Do note though, that this is not a board book. The pages are heavy paper, but paper nonetheless. The covers will be 350gsm heavy stock to protect those pages, and give the book some extra resilience.

Backers who pledge £22 can pick from either Visions of War A4 or The Golden Seal A4.
It’s just a bit more to go bigger, and at £40, backers can pick either Visions of War A3 or The Golden Seal A3.
Alternatively, both books in A4 are unlocked at £42, and both in A3 at £75.
Handiwork estimate delivery in January 2026.
