Free League has confirmed its Kickstarter for the previously announced Invincible superhero roleplaying game will launch on September 23rd.

The crowdfunding campaign, run in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, will bring the world of the groundbreaking comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley to the tabletop. The comic is also a popular animated series on Prime Video.
Fans can sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter goes live at 3 pm CEST (9 am EST / 6 am PST). Those who back a physical reward within the first 48 hours will receive a free exclusive cloth patch of the Viltrum Empire’s symbol.
The campaign will fund a Core Rulebook, available in both a standard and a Kickstarter-exclusive Collector’s Edition, and a boxed Starter Set. Both feature illustrations by original Invincible artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, with graphic design by the notable Johan Nohr (MÖRK BORG). A free Quickstart PDF will also be made available for immediate download for those wanting a preview of the game.
A key stretch goal has also been revealed. If unlocked, Skybound will commission a limited print run of Invincible #1 with a brand-new variant cover by artist Todd Nauck and colourist Matt Herms. This collector’s item will be exclusive to the campaign’s physical reward backers and will not be printed again.
The game is being designed by Adam Bradford, founder of D&D Beyond, and Tomas Härenstam, co-founder of Free League and lead designer on acclaimed titles like the ALIEN RPG and Blade Runner RPG. The system will be an adaptation of Free League’s popular Year Zero Engine.
Tomas Härenstam expressed his long-held ambition in a statement,
One of my very first tabletop roleplaying games was the old Marvel Superheroes by TSR, and making a superhero RPG has been a lifelong dream. I think the genre, and Invincible’s more grounded and visceral take on it, is a great fit for the Year Zero Engine game mechanics.”
Designer Adam Bradford told Polygon that the mechanics will emphasise the core conflict of the source material.
Mark Grayson juggles school, homework, and personal relationships while also mastering his powers and facing off against super-villains (sometimes even his own father),” Bradford explained. “With Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, there are two main types of scenes — action and social. Action scenes capture the thrill of battling super-villains, but I love that social scenes provide important narrative downtime between those clashes where the relationships and responsibilities that make the characters more than just superheroes come to life.”
