Crunchyroll confirms Spy x Family season 3 will stream this autumn

Crunchyroll has confirmed that the third season of the hit anime Spy x Family will stream on its platform from 4th October. The announcement came with the release of a new main trailer for the upcoming season.

The hugely popular series will be available worldwide on the streaming service, excluding Asia, with new episodes premiering weekly on the same day as their Japanese broadcast. The new trailer also gives fans a preview of the ending theme song, “Actor,” performed by the singer-songwriter Lilas.

The third season sees some changes behind the scenes. Yukiko Imai is taking over as director, working alongside series composition writer Rino Yamasaki. The animation will continue to be a joint production between WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks. Much of the core production staff returns, including Kazuaki Shimada as character designer and chief animation director, and (K)NoW_NAME handling music production.

The main Japanese voice cast are all reprising their roles, including Takuya Eguchi as Loid Forger, Atsumi Tanezaki as Anya Forger, and Saori Hayami as Yor Forger.

Spy x Family is adapted from the manga by Tatsuya Endo, which has been serialised in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump Plus since 2019 and boasts over 38 million copies in circulation. The story follows the master spy Twilight, who must create a fake family to get close to a political target. His mission becomes complicated when his adopted daughter, Anya, turns out to be a telepath and his new wife, Yor, is a deadly assassin, with neither adult aware of the other’s secret.

The anime has been a critical and commercial success since its debut in 2022. The first season secured multiple honours at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, and the character of Anya Forger has won the “Must Protect At All Costs” award three years in a row. The franchise also expanded to the big screen with the film SPY x FAMILY CODE: White, which was released in the UK in April 2024.
