Medieval fantasy metal band Castle Rat has released a new music video for their song WOLF I, showcasing a striking Red Sonja aesthetic.
The video features lead singer Riley Pinkerton in her persona as the Rat Queen, a warrior on a mission to defend ‘The Realm’. Joining her in this quest are bandmates The Count, The Plague Doctor, and The Druid. The song is taken from the band’s sophomore LP, The Bestiary.
Filmed and directed by Pinkerton and Chris Thompson, the music video for WOLF I is set in a mystical, blue-tinted forest. The narrative follows the Rat Queen, clad in formidable armour and distinctive red and white face paint, as she navigates the enigmatic woods. Throughout the video, she interacts with the ethereal presence of a Wizard and a glowing, wolf-like spirit, engaging in what may be ritualistic actions such as drawing symbols on trees. Although the question of why a fighter or barbarian class would be marking runes or glyphs is a puzzle.
The Rat Queen’s chainmail bikini, a clear nod to the iconic look of the sword-and-sorcery heroine Red Sonja, was created by the artists at It Is Known. The same armour appears on the album cover, along with a unicorn.

According to the band’s lore, the Rat Queen and her allies are locked in a struggle against their arch-nemesis, Death Herself, also known as ‘The Rat Reaperess’.
The video for WOLF I is available to watch now on YouTube.
