The main mechanic uses a 3d6 plus skill roll system, with a unique feature: rolling a 6 gives you a ‘Strong Hit’ to spend on special effects based on your character. If you succeed or fail by four or more, you trigger ‘Unexpected Consequences,’ which can add new story twists or risks.
These mechanics set the stage for what Fragged Empire does best: intense, high-tech tactical combat. The rules reward smart use of cover and positioning, and starship battles play out in phases with miniatures, pushing captains to outthink their opponents.
