A striking new art style has been revealed for Salt States, the first official supplement for the anarchist roleplaying game Zephyr. Developer Araukana Media shared the gorgeous layouts and details via their newsletter, showcasing a departure from the game’s original look and a host of new mechanics.
Update: 2nd Sep: Araukana Media has clarified that the art shown here is in the old style, whereas Salt States will be a future supplement.

This marks the first major expansion for the game since Geek Native shared a teaser for the original Zephyr back in 2022.
The new art for Salt States is described as more time-consuming but distinct. Fede, the creator, explained the change in technique,
I’ve been working on a new artstyle for it – switching my hard round brush stroke for painting and texturing everything with a hard sketchbrush with no opacity.”
This sourcebook will be a significant expansion, allowing players to take on the roles of the “valleypeoples”, described as Salt States Heroes who can wield terrifying “Institutions” to forge their own legends.
Furthermore, Salt States will introduce several new subsystems that push the limits of the core rules. An “Art subsystem” is planned to make the game’s “Evokes” mechanic happen more easily during sessions. The supplement will also feature new clans and kingroups, alongside a system that allows players to craft their own unique factions by mixing different in-game myths and customising the “comic-form lifepath” system from the first game.

Zephyr is a tabletop roleplaying game about obligation and identity, set in a world where communities exist outside the structure of states. It was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and Araukana Media continues to share updates on its development through channels like their Patreon.
