A quirky British sci-fi comedy, which critics have called “Back to the Future meets Bargain Hunt”, is heading to digital platforms on the 29th of September. The film, Time Travel is Dangerous, is narrated by Stephen Fry and features a host of familiar faces from British television.
The movie follows best friends Ruth and Megan, who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill, London. Their business gets a strange boost when they discover a time machine and realise that acquiring stock is significantly cheaper if you can just pop back and collect it from the past. Their goal isn’t to alter history or get rich, but simply to find a nice Victorian lamp or an authentic ’80s bum bag. However, they soon discover that meddling with the timeline has consequences, not least the risk of being sucked into a hellish time-space vortex known as “the Unreason”.
The trailer confirms a chaotic and humorous journey through time, with the time machine itself looking like a repurposed bumper car.
The cast includes Johnny Vegas (Benidorm), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral), and Mark Heap (Spaced). Also appearing are Tony Way (Game of Thrones), Guy Henry (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts).

In a twist on the mockumentary format, the film’s leads, shop owners Ruth Syratt and Megan Stevenson, play characters based on themselves. The story is even set around their actual vintage shop, ChaChaCha, which adds a layer of real-life documentary to the sci-fi proceedings.
Time Travel is Dangerous is directed by Chris Reading, who also co-wrote the script with the Shakespeare Sisters, Anna-Elizabeth and Hillary. Chris Reading told the press about the upcoming digital release.
We’re excited for Time Travel is Dangerous to be available to the biggest audience yet with the digital release. To celebrate the release, we are having an awesome launch event for the public at Alexandra Palace, with special screenings, stalls and live music which the cast will be down to support. Bringing it back to where we started in North London for one last big live event before everyone can watch at home!”

The Shakespeare Sisters, who acted as producers, also commented on their foray into sci-fi.
Time Travel is Dangerous was really fun for us to do as before and after we’ve mostly been in the rom com space and really enjoyed venturing into this laugh-out-loud comedy sci-fi where the jokes are big and often ridiculous. We just want to make people laugh – so we hope you do!”
Time Travel is Dangerous will be available on all major digital platforms from the 29th of September.
