The first trailer for War of the Worlds has dropped from Prime Video, featuring found footage and a narrative where the aliens actually feed on our data – of which there’s a virtual smorgasbord here on Earth. Basically we’re all screwed.
Interestingly, this particular adaptation is a story we get to witness entirely through screens; think video calls, security footage and social media. Directed by Rich Lee and produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Searching, Unfriended), the film explores themes of constant monitoring, privacy and data.
In War of the Worlds, Ice Cube stars as Homeland Security cyber-security analyst Will Radford who witnesses his world turn upside down… as he tries to protect his family from an ongoing alien invasion.
According to the official synopsis:
Will Radford (Ice Cube), a top cyber-security analyst for U.S. Homeland Security, spends his days tracking potential threats to national security through a mass surveillance program, until an attack by an unknown entity leads him to question whether the government has been hiding something important from him… and the rest of the world.
It’s an interesting contemporary take on the classic 1897 H.G. Wells’ novel
The film’s cast also includes Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, Andrea Savage, Henry Hunter Hall, Iman Benson, Devon Bostick, and Michael O’Neill.
And you’ll be able to watch War of the Worlds when it’s released on Prime Video TODAY. That’s right; it’s already out.
