Today Epic Games offered us a first look at the world of The Witcher IV whilst showing off some incredible new features coming to Unreal Engine 5.6, during its annual State of Unreal event.
In an incredibly smart move, Epic Games along with CD Projekt Red took the audience through a 10-minute (or thereabouts) gameplay and cinematic demo, giving us the best look yet not only at Ciri as a witcher, but also the world she’s navigating.
We got to see a snowy mountain landscape in Kovir, and across to the busy port town of Valdrest – where the townsfolk interact seamlessly and where one action can set off a chain of events. Nanite foliage is another interesting point, bringing the Ciri’s world into hyper detail.
And why was this a smart move? Because it’s Witcher. So many gamers are incredibly invested in this series, and being able to get such an in-depth look at the next instalment is probably the best outcome for everyone involved.
Check out the video below, so you can also marvel and get super duper excited about The Witcher IV.
Along with ‘nanite foliage’ there’s also words strung together like ‘fast geometry streaming plugin’ – which means open worlds will load a hecka lot faster.
There’s a lot to go over, but I’m happy enough to just look at the video and admire all the pretty (and details like pigs running towards some apples accidentally spilled by a town trader).
And, we almost 100% cannot expect The Witcher IV before 2027 – sorry if that’s a bit of a bummer.
