Robert Eggers, director of Nosferatu, has a werewolf horror movie in the works entitled Werwulf, and he’s already teasing us by saying it’s the darkest thing he’s ever written.
According to reports, the story will be set in 13th century England, featuring dialogue true to the time period, including translations and annotations for those less accustomed to Ye Olde English. So, that already sounds like quite a thing.
Here’s what Eggers, already known for writing things that are on the dark side, had to say on it: “It’s a medieval werewolf movie. And it’s also the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”
Hmm, okay then. Eggers co-wrote the screenplay for Werwulf alongside Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón – who had previously also co-written The Northman with Eggers. Power duo!
Curiously, cinematographer Jarin Blaschke had previously spoken about this movie saying it’s going to give us something we haven’t really seen before. What that something is, is well… vague at best.
Yeah, we’re doing it now. I can’t tell you a thing. But it’s something that’s not been done before that I’m aware of or not done in this way. So [we’re] just going to test it and see if it works. We’re still figuring it out, and I can’t talk about it, [but] the primary candidate has not been done before.
I have no idea what that means. I guess it’ll all come out in the wash sooner or later, and certainly when it’s released on Christmas Day 2026 (if not sooner).
