George R.R. Martin has revealed there are a grand total of EIGHT other Game of Thrones spinoffs – that’s right, in addition to House of the Dragon (AKA Big Dragon House) currently in development.
The author, whose head seems to have been turned by TV spinoffs (and seems very keen on them) spoke out during an appearance at Festival Bang recently.
Here’s what he had to say:
In television, we have the new show, House of the Dragon, which has just finished filming its second season, and we’re going to be planning for the third season soon. But I also have like eight other spin-off shows that we’re developing. The Dunk and Egg show has been greenlit. The others, not yet, but we’re still working on them.
You may be wondering ‘what exactly is Dunk and Egg’? Well, wonder no more. It’s a series is titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which takes place a “century before the events of Game of Thrones, [when] two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
Okay, then. Unfortunately, Martin didn’t spill the beans on which other spinoffs are actually counted in the eight, however some of the previously mentioned ones include The Sea Snake, Ten Thousand Ships, The Golden Empire, Flea Bottom, Aegon the Conqueror, and Snow.
What I really want to see is West of Westeros, featuring Arya Stark sailing west and being a complete badass. Before you get excited, that’s not anything that’s officially been mentioned, but it was proposed by a fan and I think it’s the best thing I’ve heard so far.
Although, I’m sure many of Martin’s readers would rather he just sodding well finishes Winds of Winter. Can you really blame them?
