12 Masks of Halloween: #3 Steampunk leather helmet

October 21, 2017 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

It’s getting close to Halloween and Geek Native marks the passing of time by surfacing a new mask each day. It’s a years old tradition on the site and there’s even Google+ Collection for easy browsing if want to check out yesteryears. We’ve featured steampunk asks before but not one of Imperat Shop’s creations. This […]

A steampunk magician in L’Orange’s “Blame the Author”

October 18, 2017 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

If the hip hop sounds familiar then that’s because Del the Funky Homosapien, the vocalist, is from the animated band Gorillaz. I’m not hip enough to have known that before today but I certainly have some Gorillaz albums in my collection. I think Harwood Gordon is excellent as the magician. Alexander Thompson wrote and directed […]

Turn your dull teapot into a steampunk R2-D2

December 23, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

This video is from the AWE Artist Series and has Marissa Deal put together a steampunk R2-D2. This particular steampunk droid is also a fully functional kettle. AWE call it a teapot, but it’s the device that makes the water boil, not the pot that brews the tea. Steampunkers pick up on that sort of […]

The amazing art of Seungjin Woo

July 6, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Seungjin Woo is a concept artist who’s worked on Star Trek: Beyond. In fact, it’s his first feature film. However, the Vancouver based artist has oodles of experience at places like Double Negative, The Coalition Studio and Behaviour Interactive. His art is detailed and careful and yet conjures up broad strokes of imagination and wonder. […]

Wozah! These steampunk designs rock!

June 6, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Geek Native last featured some Steampunker designs back in 2013 with this steampunk computer desk. There’s a lot more on show from the site, though, including these great designs. Some of these full suits look almost sci-fi steampunk. Is that a thing? Full on steampunk battle armour.

This way to the Cthulhu library

May 19, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Etsy boutqiue Gregs Home from Gregory Besson sells tentacled door handles. The octopus handles are hand mae in Paris and were created when Besson needed something for his boat. I think they have something of a steampunk feel to them but that’s probably the result of the brass powder used in the resin. The nice […]

The amazing steampunk science of Pierre Jean Tardiveau

February 24, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Steamwork fans and inventors should be aware of Paris-based designer Pierre Jean Tardiveau. He makes some incredible ‘scopes. We’re talking about polariscopes, callikryptoscopes and devices like the Juipter Pendulum. The image above is of a wonderful looking steampunk lamp and the videos below will show you how clever Tardiveau’s creations are. This is steampunk science.

Steampunk Furby

February 22, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Cute or annoying? This Furby has gone through a better transformation than just having some gears glued on it to become a steampunk Furby. Created by Morgan Gifts the Furby has had its internal mechanical parts exposed, all sorts of steamtech enhancements added and those ears could now probably pick up Radio One.

TradeCraft Bonus: Incredible wearable steampunk lanterns

January 19, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

Today’s “wearable” talk seems to be all about smartwatches, fitness bands and the occasional VR headpiece. Haven’t we forgotten something important? Something incredible? Something like these wearable steampunk lanterns from Harlots and Angels. Steampunk Cthulhu warding lantern I want this one Steampunk kraken glowing lantern Show me moar Steampunk Elder Sign lantern I demand access […]

Callover Cover: Legenderry: Vampirella

January 6, 2016 by Andrew Girdwood Leave a Comment

I’ve no problem with Vampirella having more clothes on than normal. This version of the immortal heroine has gone all steampunk and David Avallone’s adventure is set in a neo-Victorian world of petticoats and airships. The cover artist is Joe Benitez. You can find the comic at Things From Another World or Comixology.
