The build up for the new live-action series of Tomb Raider is causing fans to take serious notice, with star Sophie Turner (best known in her role as Sansa from Game of Thrones) having recently spoken about her preparation for the role – which starts filming this month!
There’s already some major green flags for the series, with maybe the biggest of all being that it’s being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) – who’ll also be included in the cast – alongside Chad Hodge.
Lara Croft, as many of us will know, is quite a physically demanding character to have to play, and Turner has apparently been taking this very seriously in her preparation for the role.I n an interview with ScreenRant, she shared that her prep work actually began all the way back in February of last year:
I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January. I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider.
Turner is feeling very positive about the series as it goes into filming, telling Screenrant: “I think it’s going to be something special.”
The series is set to be more representative of recent Tomb Raider video games (so, no pointy bewbs for example), but it’ll still have the bats, according to Waller-Bridge! Back in 2024, she was quoted saying: “Lara means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
So, what else do we know so far? Well, the cast also Jason Isaacs, and Martin Bobb-Semple, but the OTHER big green flag is the fact that Sigourney Weaver is also in talks to join the series – which I think would be amazing if it comes together.
This is all sounding pretty exciting so far! More info when we have it.
