Vortex Verlag has announced a festive treat for tabletop gamers: a free, limited-time expansion for their Magical Renaissance setting, Serenissima Obscura. Titled The Trouser Club, this six-page setlet introduces the vibrant and cutthroat world of the compagnie della calza to the game.
Available only until December 31st, the release is intended as a “thank you” to the community following a year of expansion for the game line.
The Compagnie della Calza
The new content focuses on a historically inspired phenomenon unique to Venice: the “trouser clubs” or compagnie della calza. In the game, as in history, these are societies defined by their flamboyant attire and fierce social rivalries.
Players can expect to “rock the tightest stripy trousers” and compete to organise superior carnival entertainments than their backstabbing rivals. While the setlet is grounded in the Serenissima Obscura setting, Vortex Verlag notes that the concept can be adapted to any fantasy setting where political intrigue and ostentatious fashion intersect.
In a statement released to the press, the publisher explained:

It has been an exciting year full of imagination and new adventures for the Magical Renaissance. To thank you, we have a little X-Mas-gift for you, a 6-pages setlet from Serenissima Obscura.”
A Massive Renaissance Setting
For those unfamiliar with the core game, Serenissima Obscura is a roleplaying game deeply rooted in a “Magical Renaissance” aesthetic. As previously explored on Geek Native, the system offers a massive setting filled with dark secrets, blending historical depth with occult mysteries.
The current pre-order campaign for the game is still active on BackerKit. Collectors should note that certain printed materials are exclusive to this pre-order phase and will not be available in retail channels later.
