Monte Cook Games has launched a short-window sales event on BackerKit, offering “ready to ship” deluxe editions of some of their most high-profile tabletop roleplaying games.

The campaign, which positions itself as a holiday market, is explicitly targeting collectors and fans who missed out on original crowdfunding exclusivity windows. Unlike standard crowdfunding campaigns, where the wait for a physical product can span months or years, this inventory is printed and currently sitting in warehouses. The event is live now and concludes on December 1st.
At the forefront of the offering are the deluxe editions of Old Gods of Appalachia and The Magnus Archives. Both games are adaptations of hugely successful horror podcasts and represent significant successes for Monte Cook Games in recent years.
Old Gods of Appalachia, a roleplaying game of cosmic horror set in an alternate Appalachia, raised over $2 million on Kickstarter in 2022. The deluxe edition usually commands a premium on the secondary market due to its limited availability outside the initial campaign. Similarly, The Magnus Archives RPG brings the popular Jonathan Sims-narrated anthology to the table via the Cypher System.
The structure of the sale utilises a tiered discount mechanic rather than flat price reductions. The publisher has laid out a system where purchasing a single book grants a 20% discount, scaling up to 50% off for those purchasing five items. This volume-based approach suggests a strategy to clear warehouse space of premium stock before the fiscal year ends.
In addition to the licensed properties, the sale includes deluxe versions of the core Cypher System rulebooks and other fan-favourite original IPs from the publisher.
While the terminology is “campaign,” it is functionally a flash sale hosted on BackerKit’s pledge manager infrastructure. Monte Cook Games has stated that these items will ship in time for the holiday season, a claim made possible because the production phase, usually the most volatile part of tabletop manufacturing, is already complete.
For those who prefer digital libraries or miss the physical shipping window, standard digital editions of these titles remain available via DriveThruRPG.
The Holiday Market serves as a rare opportunity to acquire the “prestige” versions of these books without paying the inflated prices often found on eBay or trading forums. However, the window is narrow; the campaign closes strictly on December 1st.
