Director David F. Sandberg has been teasing details about his upcoming Amityville movie, claiming that horror fans can look forward to a suspenseful slow burn with a greater focus on tension for this one.
The Shazam! and Until Dawn filmmaker is looking to get back into the classic and supernatural side of horror, according to a recent appearance at Midnight Fest:
I’m looking forward to doing a supernatural, classic horror again. Until Dawn was quite different and was more gore and craziness. Really looking forward to doing more of that suspenseful, supernatural horror.
Sandberg’s currently developing his Amityville project at Amazon MGM Studios, from a script written by Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing of The Conjuring: Last Rites and The Autopsy of Jane Doe fame.
Although we don’t know a great deal of detail with regards to the plot, the director’s statements are giving vibes of dread and psychological horror rather than the blood and gore stuff he’s previously done so well. And y’know what? I for one welcome that.
Sandberg also once again brought up the notion of Lights Out 2; something fans have speculated about ever since his 2016 directorial debut. He said:
There’s a chance there could be a sequel. We’ll see. We did have a version of a sequel which it wouldn’t be if we do it now. Well, some of it might be. But that one took place shortly after [the original], but now Martin’s not a kid anymore, so it would have to take place, like, 10 years later.
He went onto add: “I don’t know how much I should say, ’cause it could still happen!”
Interesting, but it’s less of a pull for me. Stay tuned for more updates from me on Amityville!
