Paramount has released a new featurette for the upcoming release of Primate, and it gives us a much better idea of what to expect from Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) upcoming horror.
In the movie, beloved family member (or ‘pet’) Ben – who just happens to be a chimp – contracts rabies during family vacation time in Hawaii, leading to some truly terrifying moments.
Now, you may think that Stephen King has been everywhere in terms of movies recently (and you’d be right), but this has nothing to do with him… I’m disagreeing a little. It’s like the people who wrote this thought of King’s movie Kujo (about the dog that contracts rabies and goes on a dangerous killing spree) and thought: “Hmmm, how can we make this concept EVEN MORE TERRIFYING?!”
This movie has already done incredibly well as various festivals, being labelled as incredibly effective whilst avoiding annoying common horror tropes. Check out the featurette below:
Primate stars Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, and Troy Kotsur, and the cast also includes Victoria Wyant, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, Charlie Mann, and Tienne Simon.
I’m still a little on the fence about this one, as I don’t like the idea of a) chimps as pets and b) something terrible happening to a chimp (or any animal) – even if it is fake pretend animals! And let’s face it, they’ve at the very least given Ben rabies. Poor Ben!
Well, if you don’t mind terrifying chimps, and you’re chimping at the bit for Primate, you’ll be able to watch it on 30th January if you’re in the UK, or the 9th January if you’re in the US.
What do you think about the featurette for Primate – or even just the concept of a murderous, rabies-infected chimp? Comment below to start the conversation (I’ll happily get involved).
