This might be because there are few sci-fi geeks in adland or it might because the rebranding, itself, has gone well. This adland geek favours the latter option.

Barcelona based agency Dvein were lucky enough to be given a very creative brief from SyFy. As a result they’ve put together this funky little ad. “Hecho en Syfy” means “Made at Syfy”. The ad is expected to run in Spain and Portugal not the UK or US.

I’m kinda chuffed that directors like Mr Wright are in touch with the fan movement enough to a) have a twitter account and b) spot the mashups while they’re still hot and new.

It’s pretty good. Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Scott Pilgrim. I’ve got the first box set, the book of water, and some of the scenes aren’t familiar. Suggests to me that I should hunt down the next one.

The festival will be taking place from the 8th to 10th of October in Glasgow and the 15th to 17th of October in Edinburgh. The anime will show at the GFT in Glasgow and the fab Film House in Edinburgh.

As it happens, as part of the Discovery Film Festival in Dundee – that’s October 22nd to 26th – will also extend to include anime.

It won’t be easy.

In order to get traction in America we can expect – and know it’s going to happen – some American agents. The Hollywood Reporter has the inside; two CIA agents, Rex and Ester, find themselves caught up in alien issue and seek out help from Torchwood. We’re not even sure if there ever really was a Torchwood. It’s all nothing but rumournow.

Russel T Davies told the paper,

“The two teams coming together is a big part of the story — are they friends or enemies? There’s a lot of sparks and excitement.”

Which is a little… well; does any one really expect the two sides not to line up eventually?

The original pre-Children of Earth Torchwood was happy to try and be a sexually adult as possible. RTD may well make use of the Starz positioning to make more of this.

“If the story demands intimacy or savagery, we will go there absolutely … [but] there’s nothing better than a great big global thriller that stops for a sex scene — it’s probably hard to make that happen in a thriller.”

He also said;

“I’ve always had loose standards and practices,

… which is kind of interesting. I’m not sure what he means by “loose standards”.

Two posters for the series have also been released: one Jack and one Gwen.

Of note is the low low price of the first volume which is a mere 980 yen. That’s about £7.

I’m no expert but my gut feeling is that Gundam is one of the oldest and longest running anime successes.

The station posted an extended trailer for the show – 1 minute and 11 seconds long – on YouTube on July the 30th. On Sunday it was one of the most popular videos on YouTube.
