I also really hope I enjoy the film. I’ve read Herman Melville‘s classic and after an awkward start you quickly get into the swing of things; the sign of a very well written book indeed.

As you might expect; in Age of Dragons, Ahab’s obession is that of a great white dragon. Also, Ahab is Danny Glover. There’s Vinnie Jones too. No. He’s not a dragon.

I’m kinda chuffed that directors like Mr Wright are in touch with the fan movement enough to a) have a twitter account and b) spot the mashups while they’re still hot and new.

It’s pretty good. Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Scott Pilgrim. I’ve got the first box set, the book of water, and some of the scenes aren’t familiar. Suggests to me that I should hunt down the next one.

Judge Minty looks pretty professional. There’s a website and Facebook Group.

The film, as you might expect, features Judge Minty. The aging Judge is due to retire (not just for his age, but because he’s being a bit compassionate) and selects to go via The Long Walk.

If you’re not familiar with term – it’s when the retiring Judge marches out into the Cursed Earth. They don’t tend to be seen again. The film focuses on Judge Minty as the lawin the lawless wilds of the radioactive wastes.

Awesome.

That cast, by the way, includes Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and John Hurt. See. I did say this animated film was shaping up to be promising.

What do you make of it?

I don’t mind saying that I’m a little uncertain. The Ultramarines looked a little clean. I thought the animation style might have been grittier.

The festival will be taking place from the 8th to 10th of October in Glasgow and the 15th to 17th of October in Edinburgh. The anime will show at the GFT in Glasgow and the fab Film House in Edinburgh.

As it happens, as part of the Discovery Film Festival in Dundee – that’s October 22nd to 26th – will also extend to include anime.

Now Frank Robnik at the Universty of Applied Sciences in Augsburg Germany has created an animated guide about the graboids (aka Landsharks). Voiced by David Ingram and with music from SEbastian Birkl, it’s a must watch for any gamer, geek or Tremors fan.
