The Avengers could have had a different and much darker opening sequence. Not only was it written and planned, it was shot and filmed. It begins with the aftermath of the battle and with the predictable blame game starting up. It also shows the tensions in the relationship between Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.
Hopefully the blu-ray sets for The Avengers will add back in some of these cut sequences so we can see the interaction among S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in a little more detail.
